EXPLORA ATACAMA EXPERIENCES The daily excursions at explora Atacama included with your stay there is an integral part of your explora experience. The lodge at explora Atacama provides you with a luxurious base with all the essential comforts for an in-depth exploration of the natural and cultural surroundings of this remote area of South America. Your stay at explora will enable you to discover the ancient culture of Atacama, its singular wildlife, and get to know in real depth the natural landscapes of this vast terrain: from the brown of the Andean mountains and volcanos, to the white of the salt flats and the green of the oases. Each day at explora Atacama, you can choose from a wide range of explorations, with recommendations from your expert guide. They may be on foot or on horseback, or by bicycle; a couple of hours long or a full day; gentle or more physically demanding. Every evening, an explora guide will meet with you in the lodge bar to tell you about the explorations planned for the following day and help you with the difficult task of choosing between the 7 to 14 different options, all of them exciting. San Pedro de Atacama is located at an altitude of 2,500 meters above sea level. The explorations planned, enable your body to gradually become accustomed to the altitude, can take you to heights of between 4,000 meters and 4,500 meters above sea level and if you wish, even further on our high-mountain climbs. More extensive explorations include open-air picnics. The different amazing Atacama desert travel treks available enable you to get to know the people descended from ancient cultures, salt flats, geysers, archaeological sites and the diverse wildlife of the area. These treks can take you to altitudes of between 2,500 meters and 4,500 meters . By your third day in Atacama, you may be ready to undertake explorations to 4,000 meters above sea level, an increasingly higher each day. Horses have not been a part of the traditional Atacameño culture here but have been introduced to enable you to ride, trotting or galloping along the dunes, valleys and plains and to appreciate the contrasts in landscapes, forms and colors of this extensive area.
