Iguazu Falls - Argentina

Iguazu Falls is perhaps the greatest spectacle of waterfalls, 257 of them spanning 2.7 kilometers, that exists on Earth. It is definitely the biggest - twice as big in terms of water flow as the Niagara Falls in North America. It is set amongst an untouched jungle of red earth, rivers and exuberant vegetation, full of extraordinary flora and fauna. You won't just see Iguazu Falls you will also hear and feel its power when you are there. Iguazu means "Great Waters" in Guarani, the language of its indigenous inhabitants. Legend has it that the Falls were created by an angry god when the girl he wanted to marry ran away with her lover. Enraged, the god sliced open the river and created Iguazu Falls. The size and grandeur of Iguazu Falls has to be seen to be believed. Not surprisingly, it was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and recently voted as one of the Seven New Natural Wonders of the World. Situated in the northeast of Argentina, just over 1000 km from the city of Buenos Aires, its nearest town in the Argentinean side is Puerto Iguazu. It is on the border with Brazil and Paraguay through the concourse of Paran¡ and Iguazu Rivers. This amazing natural wonder and its surrounding national park are home to extraordinary flora and fauna that can be explored thanks to guided tracking tours of the national Park. Your senses will be overwhelmed by scenes of exuberant beauty amongst the layers of cascading falls and rivers nestled within untouched jungle. You can take a trail that leads you to the base of the falls where you certainly will get wet, or follow the upper path which will bring you via a footbridge for some spectacular scenic views. The two trails together give you a chance to grasp the sheer size, power and beauty of the unique natural wonder that is Iguazu Falls.
