North Patagonia - Chile

The Northern Patagonian region of Chile, like the rest of Chile, stretches from the Pacific in the east to the Andes in the west and is home to 12 major lakes as well as countless small lakes that are dotted all over the region that is shared with neighboring Argentina on the other side of the Andes. The spectacular scenery of deep blue mountain lakes in combination with snow-capped volcanos and large areas of forest is what made this region famous beyond the borders of Chile. Due to the endless mountains and snow-capped volcanos, the region is often referred to Switzerland of Chile. In addition it’s difficult to overlook the influence of the early German immigrants, that have all settled in the Lake District and Northern Patagonia and the towns and farms of the region are still full of those traditions. However, the region has still also kept its Chilean charm.
Puerto Montt, which is the capital of “Los Lagos” is the gateway to Patagonia as well as hundreds of Islands of which Chiloe is the most famous one. In addition it is the start of Chilean fjords of Patagonia which is home to a unique flora and fauna particular so in in birds and marine animals.
Enjoy a soak in a hot spring beneath a starry sky, practice water sports on any number of rivers and lakes, or use the day to go fishing or visit the nature preserves and national parks of the region.
On the pacific coast you will find some of the most secluded area of Chile where you will be able to soak in the natural beauty of this region. Nearby is the Chiloe archipelago with Chile’s largest island which has retain its distinctive culture.
North Patagonia remains a vast areas of wilderness with abundant flora and fauna largely undiscovered or spoilt by excessive tourism because of its remoteness. Yet there are a number of luxury end lodges that provide for the few luxury adventure seekers or those seeking to find a quiet hideaway that has astounding natural beauty and cultural authenticity.
